Madrid, 29th June 2022. This next Monday 4th of July, The Women for Africa Foundation (FMxA) by means of their program known as “Science by Women”, presents “African Women Scientists for Sustainable Development: proposals and challenges” in the Summer Course of “El Escorial”. The president of FMxA María Teresa Fernández de la Vega and the minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, will be in charge of the opening of the convention.
The program includes the conferences of María Blasco, director of The National Center of Oncological Investigations (CNIO) and the Assumpta Chinwe Nwanya from the Department of Physics and Anatomy at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and beneficiary of the program “Ellas Investigan” in the Institute of Material Sciences of Barcelona (ICMAB).
Moreover, at the reunion of the afternoon, a round table is foreseen to be moderated by the coordinator of “Ellas Investigan”, Anna Fumarola under the title “N.O.W. IS ÁRICA: from the laboratory to a diverse and inclusive society” will hold four investigators of the program: : Maryke Labuschagne, Badiaa Ait Ahmed, Sifau Adenike Adejumo y Anissa Aouni, each one of them from different African countries and universities.
Some of the main objectives of this course are not only to shed light upon the skills and talent of the African scientists, enhance their leadership, learn the challenges and opportunities that the African continent is faced with, in connection to the ODS, but also strengthen the scientific cooperative between Spain and Africa.
One of the novelties is that among those enrolled will be all the women scientists from the different editions of “Ellas Investigan” who are currently doing their research stay in the Spanish centers associated with the program. More than 20 women scientists will meet for the first time to continue building and strengthening collaboration and leadership networks.
The conference is funded by the Equality Unit of the Complutense University of Madrid and the Eurofins Foundation.
