Women from Nador will be the first women net menders in Morocco

Madrid, the 29th of June 2021. There were no women net menders in Morocco, the women who mend fishing nets, let alone an association bringing them together. And yet they have proved to be in great demand. Thanks to the project Connecting Seas, which we carried out with the visit of Intermares training ship to Nador, we began to work with them, and we continued with initiatives until, now as a cooperative, they have recently begun a new training course for employment, with a job in the ports of the province of Nador.

Ten women will receive these eight weeks training, its objective being to professionalise the profession techniques through knowledge of the different types of knots and nets and their repair.

This new step in our work with the women net menders is carried out in collaboration with Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture’s Department of Maritime Fisheries, the Mediterranean Chamber of Maritime Fisheries and Nador’s Delegation of Maritime Fisheries.
