Selected candidates 2026 specialized courses – Pending resolution

Introduction

With the support of the Directorate-General for Relations with Africa of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Women for Africa Foundation launches a new edition of the Learn Africa Canarias programme, an online training initiative aimed at African women who are university students or graduates. The programme seeks to strengthen their professional skills, enhance their employability and promote their leadership in strategic sectors for the sustainable development of the African continent.

Since its creation in 2020, Learn Africa Canarias has become one of the leading educational cooperation initiatives between the Canary Islands and Africa. Thanks to the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands and the academic and professional institutions participating in the programme, 1,211 women from 46 African countries have already gained access to high-quality training opportunities through the 1,617 scholarships awarded to date.

The 2026 call for applications represents a new step forward in this shared commitment to African women’s talent. With more than 450 scholarships available, this edition will be the most ambitious in the programme’s history and reflects the strong commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands to the training and employability of African women within the framework of the Canary Islands–Africa Strategy.

This year’s training offer has been designed to address emerging needs in African labour markets and the global challenges of sustainable development. New areas of study include artificial intelligence, circular economy and sustainable waste management, sustainable project development, equal opportunities in strategic sectors, and advanced business management. These new topics complement an already established portfolio of courses in areas such as digital transformation, entrepreneurship, sustainable tourism, international relations and Spanish language learning.

The courses will be delivered by leading institutions from the Canary Islands, including the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), the University of La Laguna (ULL), the University Foundation of Las Palmas (FULP), the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna (FGULL), the Canary Islands Institute of Technology (ITC), the Provincial Federation of Metal and New Technologies Companies of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (FEMETE) and, as a new addition this year, the Provincial Federation of Small and Medium-Sized Metal and New Technologies Companies of Las Palmas (FEMEPA), which joins the programme to further expand specialised training opportunities.

All courses will be delivered online between July and November 2026, facilitating access for participants across the African continent.

Places are limited. Therefore, each applicant may apply for one specialised training scholarship and, additionally, one Spanish language scholarship. Courses will close once all available places have been filled.

If you are an African woman with a commitment to personal growth, leadership and social transformation, this call is for you. Your talent, your education and your commitment can make a difference. We look forward to receiving your application!
