Learn Africa Canarias Program

Introduction

Throughout the year 2021, different calls for application will be launched so that African women can access to a wide variety of online training programs. There will be a very wide range of subjects, including language courses, specialised short courses, as well as own and official degrees.

These training programs, that will be offered all along the year, will be taught by:

  • ULPGC – Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canarias
  • ULL – Universidad de La Laguna
  • ESSSCAN – Escuela de Servicios Sanitarios y Sociales de Canarias
  • FGULL – Fundación General de La Laguna
  • FULP – Fundación Universidad de las Palmas
  • ITC – Instituto Tecnológico Canario

This is the second call for applications for this program. Some others will be launched throughout 2021.

Enrollment period

Many of the courses and programs that are part of Learn Africa Canarias will be offered throughout the year. However, it is important that you take into account the registration and starting dates of those you are interested in. These dates are reflected in the webpage “Open Scholarships” and in the information sheet of each program.

All courses will end within this year 2021.

In any case and, as a general rule, when you want to apply for a scholarship, send your application as soon as possible.

Only applications made through the website will be accepted.

General requirements

  • Be a woman and have the nationality of an African country.
  • Be enrolled in an African university or have a university degree issued in an African country. The degree required may vary depending on the scholarship requested (see detailed information of each scholarship)
  • Have a stable internet connection and the appropriate technical equipment (computer, laptop, tablet …). All courses are online.
  • Fulfill the specific requirements and have the technical/technological material required for each scholarship
  • Up to three scholarship applications per person are accepted, but you only have to fulfill and submit one application form. On this form you can mark up a maximum of three courses, selected in order of preference.

To apply for a scholarship you will need to attach the following documents

  • National identity card
  • Photo
  • CV
  • University Degree (as required)
  • Academic Record
  • Official language level accreditation if required
  • Any document specifically required by the scholarship

Remember that all courses will be offered online. Keep in mind that a high level is required in the language in which the courses are taught (mostly in Spanish).

In the top menu you can access all the courses offered, whatever the language is (ES/EN/FR).

How to apply

To apply for Learn Africa Canarias scholarships you do not have to register on the platform.

You only have to consult the available scholarships and click on the button “Apply”. A form will be opened and you will have to fill in all your details and attach the requested documents. We suggest you read the form in detail and have all the information requested prepared before completing it. All available courses are listed in the form and you can mark up to a maximum of three options, selected in order of preference.

Important: before submitting the application form, please check all the information, because once the application has been sent it cannot be changed.

 

Evaluation criteria

A committee of experts from the “Women for Africa Foundation” and Canarias Islands Government will make a first evaluation of all the candidatures on the basis of all the documents received.

In particular, the following documents will be taken into account:

  • CV
  • Languages

The final selection will be agreed with each of the participating universities and the results will be personally communicated to each of the selected candidates.

The decision will not be personally communicated to unsuccessful candidates.

Scholarships acceptance

Once the selected candidates have been informed, she has seven working days to accept it. Failure to express acceptance within the established period implies resigning the scholarship.

 

Beneficiary Commitment

Once the scholarship has been completed, participant students are committed to answer to a survey so the entity can assess the results, and where necessary, introduce modifications to the scholarship program in order to improve it if deemed appropriate.

The Women for Africa Foundation, the universities and the foundations may make full or partial use, on their website or in some of their publications, of the content of your answers to the survey.

Likewise, unless you instruct us otherwise writing to the following email (learnafricacanarias@mujeresporafrica.es), we also may make use of the photo you included in your application as well as your last and first names.

A few aspects to take into account

These online scholarships cover registration, tuition fees and issuance of the degree obtained.

You must have a properly configured computer equipment and operating system to develop the online course, considering the following aspects: Internet connection, web browser, operating system, desktop applications, etc.

In order to know the language in which the course you wish to apply is taught, it is important that you read carefully the information that appears in the description of the master’s or course you are interested in. Before applying, make sure you know the language level requirement, additional requirements or other documentation.

A high level of language is required to follow the courses, either Spanish, English or French. This level will be accredited with the presentation of a recognized diploma/certificate or through a telephone interview or an online test, as requested by the training centre. In addition, if you are selected, you will be informed personally and you will have to be able to communicate in the language of the scholarship you have applied for.

The beneficiary agrees to deliver a duly certified and translated copy of her university degree to the scholarship university (when required). If you are selected, we recommend starting these administrative process when you accept the scholarship.
