Learn Africa Canarias launches its 2026 call for applications with over 450 scholarships

Tuesday, June 9, 2026 – With the support of the Directorate General for Relations with Africa of the Canary Islands Government, the Fundación Mujeres por África launches a new edition of the Learn Africa Canarias programme, an online training initiative aimed at African women who are university students or graduates. The programme seeks to strengthen their professional skills, improve their employability, and foster their leadership in strategic sectors for the sustainable development of the African continent.

Since its creation in 2020, Learn Africa Canarias has established itself as one of the leading educational cooperation initiatives between the Canary Islands and Africa. Thanks to the commitment of the Canary Islands Government and the academic and professional institutions involved, 1,211 women from 46 African countries have already accessed high-quality training opportunities through the 1,617 scholarships offered to date.

The 2026 call marks a new step forward in this shared commitment to African women’s talent. With more than 450 scholarships available, this edition will be the most ambitious in the programme’s history and reflects the strong commitment of the Canary Islands Government to enhancing the skills and employability of African women within the framework of the Canary Islands–Africa Strategy.

An expanded training offer aligned with current challenges

This new edition offers a total of 14 courses—11 specialised programmes and 3 Spanish language courses—designed in response to emerging labour market needs in Africa and global sustainable development challenges.

Key new areas include artificial intelligence, circular economy and sustainable waste management, sustainable project development, equal opportunities in strategic sectors, and advanced business management. These topics complement an already well-established offer in areas such as digital transformation, entrepreneurship, sustainable tourism, international relations, and Spanish language learning.

New partnerships to broaden the programme’s impact

Courses will be delivered by leading institutions in the Canary Islands, including the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), the Universidad de La Laguna (ULL), the Fundación Universitaria de Las Palmas (FULP), the Fundación General de la Universidad de La Laguna (FGULL), the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias (ITC), and the Federación Provincial de Empresas del Metal y Nuevas Tecnologías de Santa Cruz de Tenerife (FEMETE).

A new addition this year is the Federación Provincial de la Pequeña y Mediana Empresa del Metal y las Nuevas Tecnologías de Las Palmas (FEMEPA), further expanding opportunities for specialised training and strengthening collaboration with the Canary Islands’ business sector.

Online training accessible across the African continent

All courses will be delivered online between July and November 2026, enabling participation from across the African continent.

Places are limited, and each applicant may apply for one specialised course scholarship and, additionally, one Spanish language scholarship. Courses will close progressively as places are filled.
