DEPARTMENT OF PREVENTIVE MEDICINE AND PUBLIC HEALTH, FOOD SCIENCES, TOXICOLOGY AND FORENSIC MEDICINE (FMiO-UV)

Period of enjoyment: From January 2026 to June 2027.

The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Valencia is responsible for the administrative management and organization of university courses leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and a Bachelor’s Degree in Dentistry. Historically, the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry can be considered one of the most prominent Spanish medical schools for five centuries, during which time it has been subject to a wide range of social, economic, political, and cultural conditions. For these reasons, the quality of its teaching, the level of its scientific output, and its ability to adapt to new medical trends have varied greatly.

The degree in Medicine offers comprehensive training that provides an adequate understanding of the sciences and techniques associated with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. This requires a thorough knowledge of the biological characteristics of human beings and the importance of their relationship with their physical and social environment. Finally, it is essential to acquire adequate clinical experience that prepares students for the subsequent practice of the profession while providing them with adequate skills in biomedical research. For this reason, the teaching and research staff of the Faculty of Medicine is composed of health professionals from various disciplines (physicians, biologists, etc.).

The faculty, located on the Blasco Ibañez Campus, has excellent facilities, both classrooms and laboratories and library, which have the best equipment to develop quality teaching, both theoretical and practical. All the departments involved are composed of teachers who are also researchers, many of them of recognized prestige, and have all the necessary infrastructure to accommodate graduate students and to develop research excellence

Research proposals presented to FMiO-UV should be related to the following research group areas:

1) InCoNest (Collaborative Network to Social Transformation)

We are a multidisciplinary research group at the University of Valencia in the field of education methodologies and health promotion in vulnerable contexts. Our research is carried out on different topics, but always within the framework of Global Citizenship Education. We understand research as a commitment clearly linked to social transformation and therefore we use strategies that allow us to share ideas, promote dialogue and develop proposals between different partners. The lines of research that we have worked on up to now have had as their objective the study of social transformation in vulnerable contexts such as rural areas in countries with low economic development and with special attention to the study of the role of girls/women. The first activities we have carried out have been aimed at health promotion and disease prevention in these communities.

2) Oncological Nutrition

We investigate how autophagy, especially chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA), regulates metabolism, aging, and cancer biology. We integrate nutrition and systems biology, studying how dietary changes modulate immune and tumor responses. Finally, we develop personalized oncology nutrition strategies, combining clinical trials, multi-omic biomarkers, and advanced digital tools.
