EDUARDO TORROJA INSTITUTE FOR CONSTRUCTION SCIENCE (IETcc)

Period of enjoyment: from January 2026 to June 2027.

The Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Science (IETcc), part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), bases its work on scientific research and technological development in the field of construction and construction materials.

Research proposals must be related to the following research lines of research:

1. Selfhealing construction materials for 3D printing

The development of self-healing cement-based materials is one of the effective ways for increasing the service life of structures. In addition, their 3D printing-oriented design facilitates the incorporation of the construction sector into Industry 4.0. Both strategies increase the sustainability of materials.

2. Removal of contaminants by electrokinetic technology: Heavy metals and organic pollutants.

Marine sediments can accumulate toxic heavy metals and organic pollutants, posing serious risks to the environment and human health. Electrokinetic remediation has gained significant attention as a promising method for contaminant removal. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of this technique in eliminating pollutants, considering various operating conditions and sediment characteristics.

3. Keeping it fresh: sustainable cooling materials for Climate-Resilient Cities. Laboratory and pilot scale testing.

Buildings protect humans from the outdoor environment, making it essential to maintain safe thermal conditions during heatwaves. In this context, our research provides a quantified assessment of various reflective and emissivity coatings, confirming their effectiveness in maintaining cooler building interiors.

4. Construction Systems and Building Habitability

We work with bioclimatic design in architecture, addressing energy efficiency, sustainability, comfort, and air quality to improve living conditions in the built environment.
