María Teresa Fernández de la Vega celebrates 8th March with Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in Liberia

María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, the President of the Women for Africa Foundation (Mujeres por África), will be speaking tomorrow together with the President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina J. Mohammed, at the opening of the 2017 Observance of International Women’s Day, which is being held in Monrovia on 7th and 8th March.

Over the two days, Monrovia will be one of the world capitals celebrating this day, together with Liberian women, numerous heads of governments, parliaments and African NGOs, as well as international bodies and agencies.

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, was the first woman to be elected president of an African country. At the end of this year, her second and last mandate as the leader of Liberia will come to an end. Ms Johnson Sirleaf serves on the Women For Africa Foundation's Advisory Board.
