Maman Colonelle receives her award for Best Actress in Kinshasa

5th July, 2017. The Spanish ambassador in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Francisco Javier Hergueta, yesterday handed over the prize sponsored by the Women for Africa Foundation for the best female performance, which was awarded to Honorine Munyole, better known as “Maman Colonelle”, at the last African Film Festival of Tarifa (FCAT). This recognition is unique because Munyole is not actually an actress, though she is the main character in the documentary Maman Colonelle, which tells of her life, showing great natural composure in front of the camera. Honorine is a police officer in Bukavu who is very popular in her country for her commitment to the defence of women’s and children’s rights and to the fight against the violations of which they are victims.

Women for Africa (Mujeres por África) is grateful to Ambassador Hergueta and his collaborators for delivering this award, which we hope will also help support the efforts of our dear Colonelle in combating violence against women and children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
