Creating skilled jobs for women in Ghana: GB Foods and MxA launch training program

Madrid, April 3, 2025 – The private sector plays a fundamental role in job creation and the promotion of gender equality. In this context, GB Foods, in collaboration with MxA, has launched the “Women in Charge: Upskilling for Labour Mobility in Ghana” project, an innovative initiative aimed at facilitating women’s access to higher-skilled jobs in the country’s formal labor market.

Ghana has a growing industrial structure, particularly in the city of Tema, a major port and industrial hub located east of the capital, Accra. Tema is a key driver of the country’s economy, home to numerous factories, logistics companies, and a port of great importance for international trade. The city has a high demand for skilled labor, but women with low professional training face significant barriers to accessing these jobs.

Through this initiative, GB Foods strengthens its commitment to the Ghanaian community by becoming a driving force for change in integrating women into traditionally male-dominated sectors.

The program has already yielded its first results: six selected women have begun training in soft skills and forklift operation—key training for their integration into GB Foods’ warehouses in Tema. The training will conclude in April, and after a rigorous selection process, these pioneering women will become the first to take on logistics roles within the company, paving the way for other women in the area.

For the MxA Foundation and GB Foods, the inclusion of women in the industrial sector not only promotes economic growth but also has a positive impact on society. This project is an example of the transformative power of the private sector when it commits to equity and sustainable development.

With a strong presence in Africa, GB Foods reaffirms its commitment to women’s empowerment and the continent’s economic development. WOMEN IN CHARGE is a concrete demonstration of how collaboration between the private sector and specialized organizations can break down structural barriers and create new opportunities for women in Ghana.
